The Charlotte Sun featured a front page story about the partnership between Smuggler’s employees and the Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity on August 16, 2012.

From page 1:

“Smuggler’s Enterprises is providing donations that will allow Habitat to build six homes by the end of this year.

Eight staff members from Smuggler’s restaurants – Harpoon Harry’s and the Captain’s Table, the Laishley Crab House, and the Goal Post Grill and Sports Bar – provided volunteer labor on Wednesday at a wall-raising for the first of the six homes.”

County Commissioner Trish Duffy, Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp, Smuggler’s partners Bruce & Barbara Laishley, Byron Russell and Sheriff Mike Scott, along with hosts Dr. Mark Asperila, Walt Bethel, Smuggler’s Director of Operations Chris Evans, Rob Humpel, Todd Rebol, Charlotte County Sheriff Candidate Glen Sapp, Bob Simpson and Matt Sullivan held a reception for Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto at Laishley Crab House in Punta Gorda on May 30^th2012. Senator Benacquisto is the Deputy Majority Leader of the Florida Senate as well as the chair of the Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development subcommittee. In her role as Chair of this important committee, Senator Benacquisto has helped bring Charlotte County to the attention of our State leaders. Senator Benacquisto continues to help with many of the large projects and initiatives that are currently underway in our area.

The Punta Gorda Police Department recognizes Chris Evans with First Annual Community Alliance Award.

Chris Evans, of Smuggler’s Enterprises, was presented this award for his continued support of the Punta Gorda Police Department programs. “Chris consistently steps up to the plate when his community is in need,” Chief Arenal said. “I personally want to thank him on behalf of the Punta Gorda Police Department for everything he does for our organization.”
